DefenseWall is a host intrusion prevention system from SoftSphere Technologies and represents a very efficient defense mechanism against all possible kinds of malware. Traditional antivirus programs mainly protect you only from known viruses while DefenseWall blocks unknown viruses as well.

DefenseWall efficiency is extremely high and achieves this by dividing all applications in two zones trusted and those untrusted. All trusted application remain intact, while programs being labeled untrusted are moved into virtual zone with reduced rights (similar to UAC in Windows Vista). This means all untrusted applications which you define are put into a special, locked place on a hard disk and have therefore limited access to registry and critical system files, preventing them from making any damage in case it turns out they are real malware.

In my opinion this is one of the best HIPS around and I easily recommend it as main or additional protection against of your home PC.
