Now why would anyone want to do that! Is not it nice when you insert a DVD or USB into computer and Windows itself pops up a window and runs it automatically for you! Why bother manually. True but you are not the only one who likes auto-run Windows feature. Blackhat hackers like it too.Majority of malware is spread over the internet, but trojans, worms and similar digital annoyances may spread over removable media, such as DVD, CD and USB as well.
Prime example of a very bad trojan which widely used auto-run feature in Windows was infamous Switchblade and W32/Conficker. Both of them would automatically install themselves on infected computer as soon as you inserted infected removal media.
Until now what you could do was to partially disable autorun through control panel, or permanently disable USB ports through device manager which in my opinion was not an acceptable option.
Panda Security recently released USB Vaccine which can permanently disable Windows autorun. USB vaccination can be disabled on Windows Operating System level and/or USB level. Give it a try.
