As a computer technician or an IT employee there are lots of things you need to know. One of them include recovering lost or forgotten Windows passwords. Sometimes a client just do not remember his/hers log on password and desperately calls us for help. And as always we know the answer. In this case thanks to Ophcrack.
Ophcrack is a powerful open source tool for revealing Windows Vista and Xp passwords. Using rainbow tables and brute force attack makes it extremely successful, though according to my tests in Vista system it was not always successful while I changed passwords. Especially when password included numbers and 8+ word length. This was primarily due to Windows Vista security effectiveness on one hand while on the other using default free alpha-numeric Vista tables and not the entire paid tables weighing an incredible 8GB and 52GB of space.
In Windows Xp due to security hole Ophcrack is much more successful in finding out correct password though.
Download Ophrack, burn it as an iso disc, pop a cd into cd/dvd reader and boot Windows with it. After prompting you to choose graphical or text mode Ophcrack starts its job automatically. After a few minutes you should be able to see passwords for all your accounts.
