Scan your firewall ports with ShieldsUp

Every Windows system, as you may know consists of over 65000 ports which represent "gates" where computers communicate through by either sending or receiving data packets which contain information about what we are browsing, what we are sending, what passwords we have etc.

Therefore a perfect way for someone wanting to break into a computer is to find out if one of these ports is open and consequently abuse it. A method of finding this out is known as port-scanning and is often used by black-hat hackers.Luckily port scanning process is easily denied by a solid firewall but because not all firewalls are solid, there are many people with open "gates" inviting hackers to take advantage of it.

To find out if you are safe against port-scanning I recommend you to use Internet security vulnerability profiling service or shortly ShieldsUp online service owned by reputable Gibson Research Corporation.

What ShieldsUp does is a computer scan for open ports and gives detailed report about a firewall security status, about open, closed or stealth port-condition.

A very useful additional way of checking computer's internet security status.
