How to Setup Wireless Network Connection: Full guide

Wireless network is a radio-based network which allows remote access to internet over special signal transmitting devices called routers. In simple words this means you can access internet without physical contact or wires. Technique behind is in concept much the same as the one we see in cell phones and enable us to use internet on mobile devices such are laptops. But in order to be able to take advantage of this approach we first need to set it up. For this we will need router you may get in every computer store. Note that router enables both wired and wireless network so it is much better than modem device.

Now that we have bought it all we have to do is to plug in internet line cable at the rear. If wireless is all you need you can stop here but if you want to have wired connection as well you should proceed this way.

You have now enabled wireless network through your router and if you want your desktop computer to have physical access to internet you have to connect router and computer with a separate utp cable you can buy in a computer store. Once you have it, plug it in the back of computer and router (in one of these ports 1,2,3,4) as shown in the picture.

Now you have successfully set up your new router and you can start using your both types of connection. However your wireless internet is now wide open not just to you but to anyone in range of your router's signal(a few ten yards). I think you want to prevent just anyone using your internet without your permission right! So it would be a good idea to encrypt access to your wireless internet by setting up password so that no-one without this password would be able to use your network on the fly.

To do this you have to open any web browser and type in router's ip address. This address differs from manufacturers so it is best to take a look at your instructions but usually it should be something like 192.168.1.1. Now enter this number into address bar. Small window will pop up asking you for a username and password. Note that this once more differs from vendors so you have to carefully read instructions and find out what your username and password are. If you still can not find it take a look at this huge list of default router passwords for all major routers.

Now that you find it use it and press enter. This will take you to your control panel where you can reconfigure and change different settings. First what we have to find is a panel called wireless or  wan and further security. Here we are going to set up protection for wireless internet so that only you will be able to use it.

First of all we have to choose encryption mode. I suggest you to choose WPA2 mode which is more secure than WPA or WEP. If you decide to choose WPA you will also have to choose encryption type -AWS,TKIP. Choose whatever you like just remember it. Secondly we have to type in pre-shared key/new password. Choose carefully and confirm your choice. Your wireless access should be now encrypted.

Now that we set up encryption we shall have to enable laptop to successfully connect to it. Remember! We encrypted it so not even our laptop knows the right code. We have to manually type it in our laptop. This is only one-time procedure since your laptop will remember this and connect you the next time automatically.
Go to control panel and find network and sharing center. Click set up new connection or network and than choose manually connect to a wireless network. Fill in the form and specify exact details (your network name, security type - what you have chosen previously).
Confirm and you are good to go.

Thanks for this tips I am a student and i'm taking up computer technician and most of my subjects were about networking like creating peer to peer networks and how to create a client server. But we never tried to setup a wireless networking in our computer laboratory. This tip could help gain more knowledge that i needed in setting up a wireless network.
