O & O CleverCache 6 Professional FREE License Key

CleverCache 6 logoO & O CleverCache 6 Professional is file cache management utility for Windows developed by O & O company known by making a wide range of software for different needs. The whole idea behind CleverCache is to take Windows one step further in file cache management and upgrade where Windows prefetch in Windows XP, and superfetch in Windows Vista fail.

The purpose of superfetch is to take advantage of free memory and load regularly used applications from hard drive to physical memory also known as ram. The more RAM computer has the higher number of applications can be stored inside. The benefit is obvious. Much faster access time and rare usage of slow virtual memory aka swap file. Nevertheless O&O claims Windows superfetch could be optimized for better performance as it contains a few drawbacks.

What CleverCache basically does is to carefully control all the programs in physical memory so they do not take up too much precious memory only for themselves. Further application tries to force out unused Dll-s and hung up applications and than carefully allocate memory so as many applications can get their share in RAM. But most importantly all this should eventually prevent Windows from accessing swap file too often.
CleverCache 6 Professional
I tested this utility on one of my computers with Intel Core 2 Duo 1,8 Ghz processor, 2048 MB DDR2 667Mhz Ram, Nvidia 8400 GT video card and fast Hitachi hard drive operated by Windows Vista Home Premium but it turned out it did not really boost performance any noticeable. In fact I did not see any boost at all.

In my opinion the reason for that lies in extensive amount of physical memory available to Windows so there is always enough space for anything Windows wants to do with it. And as such there is no need for constant access of virtual memory on hard drive which means Superfetch works just fine and does not need to be upgraded with any software.

But the story turns different on computers with small amount of memory which means Windows has to constantly access swap file on hard drive for applications to work properly. In such scenario OO CleverCache could be useful indeed as it actually optimizes memory usage and prevents memory leaks. So ON computers with smaller amount of memory, that could eventually optimize RAM usage for 10 or perhaps 20%.

Nothing was mentioned about its performance on Windows 7...but anyway, i doubt that it would work as efficiently in 7 as in Vista. Superfetch is maintained in Windows 7, and Microsoft is as kind as to develop Windows 7 to run on low-end machines, which means that O&O CleverCache might not be as useful in 7 than Vista.

Just an opinion, though. I think i would seriously recommend cache management for Vista users. Vista is a pig in resources management...=\

Hi, that is a somewhat unrelated comment, so feel free to delete it after reading:

1. Would you be interested to do a guest blog post for my blog, do-follow backlinks included? You mentioned in a comment some time ago that you use yahoo answers to drive traffic to your blog, something about that would be great!
2. I noticed that you have a bńew forum, but are you aware of the fact that all content posted there will NOT add content to this site, but to forumnotion? I have/ do run a couple of forums myself and SMF is a great, free forum software, just a tip.
3. Idea for an article
I really would like to read a step-to-step guide how to give an old computer new life by installing one of the Ubuntu versions on it. I have a couple of old windows machines that I would like to make usable for friends this way. Thanks for listening, SY

@Be James
I normally do not test any software on Windows 7, simply because Windows 7 is still work in progress. In general when you decid to start a project or business you have to decide what exactly you are going to do, as you can not be good at everything, you know what I mean? And I decided to focus on Vista and XP mainly. Once Vienna goes public I will definitely target my posts at it more. But until than I do not have time to cover everything although I would like to, believe me. What I do here inspires me a great deal and I enjoy writing here a lot, but unfortunately there are other thing I have to do, like college etc..

I do understand, Thomas. It's just that naturally i would love to hear and read more on how some current software work in Windows 7 since i had my spare computer installed with it and since 7's going public during October. Might wanna have first-hand knowledge before immediately jumping right into using the final release...

But you're right to have focus on just XP and Vista, since most users stick to these two...:D

Thanx for your feedback James.
I will try to do something for you in that direction. I inted to buy additional PC in a few days and I will most likely equip it with Windows 7. And than I will try to run additional tests on Vienna, to inform you and others about application compatibility, bugs etc.
