Matousec Proactive Security Challenge is a well-designed security testing procedure run by security experts, which consists of 84 various tests trying to give users an objective and independent, non-paid view of true firewall capabilities, that is how well firewall protects network from internal/external intrusions and keyloggers and further how strong self-protection shield against malware termination firewall has.
According to following criteria company prepares chart of each involving firewall, scores firewall achieves, protection and recommendation level.
Results may sometimes seem unusual to many of you as you will see reputable products such as BitDefender Internet Security, ESET Smart Security and Avira Premium Security Suite being not recommended as they do not pass many tests. Therefore I feel obliged to make something clear. What PSC does is to test firewalls against OUTBOUND protection and self-protection against termination but NOT against INBOUND protection. This means each firewall involved in this challenge is good enough to protect computer against outside intrusions. However, Matousec goes much further down the security hole and suggests that every firewall should be capable of protecting computer not just from internet threats from outside, but from inside threats as well, in case computer is already infected with malware.
