Windows has a smart predefined policy when it senses low level of battery in notebooks. In that case Windows is going to warn you when battery level on your laptop reaches 7% and automatically enters sleep mode while only 5% of battery capacity remains. The idea behind it is to prevent loss of data but while on some laptops 5% of remaining battery can hold for even 15 minutes, you may want to change or disable this settings.Low level of battery capacity warning can be changed by going to advanced power settings and change setting there. Since Windows 7 features 3 different power saving modes such as high performance, balanced and power plan you are going to have to first know what power plan you are using to change specific settings in that mode. For example if you are using high performance mode and you want to disable low level battery capacity warning, you are going to have to change settings in that specific mode.
1. Find out in what power saving mode your laptop is working.
Go to Control Panel > System and Security > Power Options
2. Click Change plan settings in the power plan you want to tweak and than Change advanced power settings
3. Change settings for low level battery capacity warning
A new window will pop-up where you are going to see expandable menu and this is where you can change settings for different parts of operating system and hardware when on specific power plan.
To prevent Windows from automatically entering sleep mode while on 5% of battery power choose Battery > Critical battery level. Here you can change settings for your laptop while running on low battery power. To disable action of going into sleep mode while reaching 5% of battery power choose 0%. In case you want to tell Windows to enter sleep mode e.g. while it remains only 10% of battery power, choose than 10%
4. Repeat this procedure for all power saving modes in case you are using all of them. Restart computer for changes to take effect.

Very good post keep going man
@anonimous
I am glad you find it helpful.
Doesn't work it wont let me make the critical numbers lower than 5%.
Sorry to hear that.
Did you try above tutorial for all three power plans! Or perhaps you have discrete graphics card on your laptop with additional video drivers (ati, nvidia). If so, go to control panel from your video card's driver and try to change those settings over there.
That's really useful one, perhaps it helps to save data :)
Following the instructions of this post in fact will help lose data. Sleep mode still uses power, although very little. If your computer is in sleep mode and loses the power, all the data will be lost. This is because sleep mode saves your current state into the memory (RAM) and in case the power is lost (battery drained), memory will be deleted.
Hibernation will save your work state on the computer's hard drive and shut down the computer so no power is needed after that. The next time you turn on your computer, it will start Windows like always but then it will load the programs and everything you had open before, so you can continue you work where you left it before.
