Many programs such as Linux distributions are available for download via P2P and this is why LimeWire and similar programs were made in the first place. However LimeWire can be(and it is) widely exploited for downloading not just legal stuff but also the other one. And even downloading copyrighted software is not illegal. You are in trouble when you are distributing that exact software you are not supposed to(which you do automatically while downloading)this than makes you a pirate and law-braker. Other than that LimeWire is perfectly legal.
